23rd June 2009 - Accord comment on Lloyds Banking Group announcements 23/6/09
The Lloyds Banking Group today announced changes in its Wealth & International Division and the Union is contacting the impacted members in the Division to offer support.
A more significant announcement for Accord members is the decision which was also announced today to close the Clevedon customer service centre and relocate most of the staff to Bristol.
The Centre, which currently employs around 600 staff, will be closed on a phased basis by the end of November
Commenting Ged Nichols, General Secretary of Accord, said:
“This is a blow for the local economy since we believe that Clerical Medical is the largest private sector employer in the Clevedon area.
Whilst we are pleased with the Bank’s offer of redeployment for the majority of the workforce, we will need to take members’ views on whether the redeployment options are realistic for them or not.
The Clevedon operation has a number of employees with caring responsibilities and, whilst for many of them there will be a good match of work preferences, skills & experience for redeployment, it may simply not be possible for them to combine these responsibilities with the increased travelling time that any redeployment offer may involve.
Accord is experienced in dealing with these matters and we are committed to finding the right solutions for the members affected.”
Accord officials will be in Clevedon and Bristol this week to listen to members’ concerns and to take their views forward.
