Click on the Join Us button at the top right hand corner of the Home page and you can join on-line. Once you are a member there are lots of ways in which you can get more involved. You can be come a workplace representative - reps are the first point of contact for members who need information or have a problem at work. Don't worry - the Union provides training and regular information on current negotiations etc and the Company allows paid time off for Union duties. You can attend the Union's Biennial Delegate Conference as a Conference Delegate. The next Conference will be held in April 2004 - members can get a flavour of Conference 2002 by clicking onto the Conference button in the Members' Only Section. Regional Executive Committees are made up of reps and, as you could guess, meet to share information and approaches to problems with other reps in their regions. There is a health and safety contact on the REC too who is the first point of contact for members with concerns about H&S at work You could join one of the National Advisory Committees. They represent special interest groups within the Company - for example there is a NAC for Managers, Ethnic Members, Retired Members, Mortgage Advisors and Colleys members etc.. Members of the NACs are actively involved in joint negotiations and so can put forward their colleagues views directly to the Company. You might even join the Principal Executive Council. The PEC is elected by the membership and led by the President and two Vice Presidents, it is the Union's highest decision making body. It is closely involved in all joint negotiations and also oversees the running of the Union. |
